Last Tuesday morning, Mr. Earl Corey was formally introduced to the students and assembled staff as our soon-to-be new school principal. At an All-School Meeting, with Mrs. Kellogg there as well, students introduced themselves to Mr. Corey, and in an effort to get to know him, asked him questions that he claimed were tougher than the ones he was asked at his interview (“What did you like best about being a teacher?” “Do you like cats?”)!
Mr. Corey taught for thirty years in Concord, Mass area, he lives in Salisbury, he’s going to run a vegetable stand (next to Woodware in Middlebury), he makes furniture and he has twin sons and a daughter. He also heard a little about the rich multigenerational connections that families have with the school as Mrs. Kellogg recounted how far back she goes with the families of some of the students sitting in the room that day! Students shared what they thought Mr. Corey should know about Whiting School (“The kids are nice.” “We have a lot of technology.”). Mr. Corey and students listened to a Dr. Seuss-inspired book about the students and teachers in a school just like Whiting (Hooray for Diffendoofer Day!) and was presented with a Whiting School t-shirt of his very own. Throughout the morning, Mr. Corey visited classrooms and had a long chat with Mr. Marcus and Mrs. Denis. It’s good to be able to meet our new school principal, and he’ll be coming back in the next few weeks so he can get to know us even better, and we him! Welcome to Whiting, Mr. Corey!
